The Cost Of Boxing

Some of you may be wondering how much it costs to be a boxer.
You may be surprised, that in some cases, boxing is no longer a cheap sport.
I have conducted some research, in addition to training at other gyms over the past three years.
I can now compare the sport of boxing from two provinces and two states, Ontario, Quebéc, New York, Florida.

However, the cost of boxing is more than just monetary. Is it worth it to pay more for your sport, to keep it safer?

MONETARY:

From this chart, it is clear to see that Florida is the least expensive place to box. The state of Florida subsidizes amateur athletes, so one only has to pay $60 for attending the boxing gym.
Also, Florida along with Quebéc, boxers do not need a doctor`s note.
New York has the highest fees for the gym at $100 a month, becasuse it is, well, New York. New York is also the most expensive for the cost of the boxing gear.
The U.S. states do not require boxers to register with the sanctioning body, as the gyms are sanctioned, boxers reqistered at senctioned gyms are automatically registered.
Ontario is the second most-expensive of all the studied areas. Ontario has the highest sanctioning fee, compared to Boxe Quebéc. This is due to the fact that Boxing Ontario must carry insurance for its athletes. In Quebéc, sports injuries are covered by the provincial health plan.

SAFETY:

From research I have conducted, along with participating in sparring sessions at gyms in New York, Montréal and Miami, I was able to note how seriously the studied areas take safety, during both sparring and competition.
Ontario is the most strict with safety. However, I was surprised at how lax Florida is when it comes to keeping its athletes safe. There are few, if any rules regaring a boxer`s safety in Florida. Use of headgear and groin protection is not even required for sparring. As a matter-of-fact, the coach rarely bothered with safey gear, as it was `too much trouble`.

ATHLETE BREAKDOWN:

Florida has the fewest female althetes.
Understadable, as Florida generally has a conservative attitued towards sports.

CORRECTION

A couple of entries ago, I talked about the possibility of Mr. Kladnik entering competition.
I mentioned that I thought he had been a professional boxer.
This is not true, he started boxing a Stockyards. Well, he is pretty good for someone who just stared, and hits really hard!
Still, I wish him the best of luck with boxing.
