When Right Is Not Right

ENTRY 302

WHEN RIGHT IS NOT RIGHT

With the possibility of a bout in two weeks, Coach Will has been working very hard with me on a few things.
Defense seems to be not so big of a problem any more. Of course that does not mean I no longer need to practice it.

We are currently working on offence. In particular, the straight right.
Some may find it hard to believe that the straight right is one of the most difficult offensive techniques to execute properly.
Remember, this is boxing, the sweet science, not a sloppy street fight.

Will does not want me to use my favourite jab--overhand combo so much. It is getting too predictable.

Coach Richard wants me to do this: Jab to the body, step right than throw a straight right.
That all has to be done within a half-second without causing serious injury to yourself.
The first time I tried that, I twisted my knee.
Yeah. Something tells me there was something wrong with how I did that. I don't think knee-twisting is part of the technique.

That will be what I will be working on this week.

I will be trying it while sparring.

PROFESSIONAL CARD IN MISSISSAUGA

Although I don't usually promote professional events here, I am making an exception in this case.
I would like to wish good luck to another professional boxer friend of mine, Mohammed Abedeen.
He will be kicking butt this weekend at the Hershey Centre.

See You In Orangeville

ENTRY 301

NO BRONZE GLOVES, NO OPPONENT

Well, we tried.
I dropped to Light-Heavy as requested by Richard, and Richard registered me, but nobody else registered in my division except one other boxer from Stockyards.

THERE'S HOPE IN ORANGEVILLE

All is not lost, however.
Richard has informed me that there is a good possibility of getting in at least one at BigTyme Boxing in Orangeville. There could maybe even be two.
Although, I don't know who my opponent is yet.

BigTyme is having their next boxing event on March 4 to celebrate their new location on Commerce Road.
For those within the Orangeville area, come on out at support amateur boxing in your community. You may even see 'The Brick' kicking some butt in the ring.

Technical Problem Delays 'Fight Night'

I am having really odd problems with some of the videos I took last Saturday.
For example, Oliver's bout has some serious glitches. One at 11:37 causes the video to freeze. Then there is one near the end, just as the trophies are being presented, there is about a quarter of a second of video 'missing'. As if someone turned off the camera for that short time. However, the camera was always running.
These things happen sometimes with digital video.
The oddest glitch is that the video will not play in HD. Even though it was recorded at 1080p, it will only play and render in 360p. I have even tried re-saving, no-go. I have tried uploading the RAW file to YouTube. Same. YouTube will only recognize it as a 360p.

You know me. I am a perfectionist when it comes to these kinds of things, so I will be working on fixing these glitches.
If you are waiting to see Oliver's bout. Sorry. It will be a while.
In the meantime, I am working on the others.
Ed's bout is almost complete and should be ready for upload later on Wednesday.

Back in the days of analogue video, we didn't have these problems.
Ah, yes. Those were the days.

Fight Night XXVII Results

SPECIAL ENTRY

FIGHT NIGHT XXVII

It was another great night at Stockyards Boxing on Saturday.
Stockyards' boxers all did well.

Kofi won a very close split, and put on a very good performance.

Michael lost by a TKO right at the bell in round three.

Ed won his bout against Kingsway by unanimous decision. He did very well despite coming back from a two-year hiatus.

Oliver lost a close split decision, but did get one standing-eight count. However, he still did very well in what was one of the best amateur boxing bouts I have seen in a while.

All bouts will be available for viewing on both YouTube and Dailymotion as soon as post-production is complete.
Bouts will be uploaded individually in this order:
By Tuesday: Oliver Kladnik/Jordan McCue
By Wednesday: Ed Hanicak/Chris Atkins
By Thursday: Kofi Sarpong/Hayden Manion
By Friday: Michael Quach/Abdul Jouda
By Sunday: All other bouts excluding exhibition.

Links to the Stockyards' boxers bouts will be posted to the Stockyards Boxing and Fitness Facebook page as well as this blog.

Bronze Gloves Entry Confirmed

ENTRY 300

Happy 300th Entry!

This is entry number 300 of this blog.
It is all thanks to you, the readers.
I have seen a lot of blogs come and go, simply because of lack of readers.
I can not really think of anything the write except to say thanks to all of the people who support this blog, and my struggles as a Masters boxer.

Bronze Gloves Entry Confirmed

Richard has entered me into the Bronze Gloves tournament for next weekend.
However, there are no other Masters entered except for one other, also from Stockyards.

I find this a bit annoying.
It is difficult for Masters to get bouts. Tournaments are the best way for us to get ring time, but when a tournamnet comes up, nobody registers.

Is it me, or is there something wrong here?

However, I still have a possible bout in Orangeville on March 4.

Fight Night XXVII This Weekend

Confirmed card for this Saturday:

Xavier Dorion [Cabbagetown] vs Jackson Cooke [Cabbagetown] 85/38
Newton Collins [Stockyards] vs Billy Hearns [Windsor Boxing] 118/54
Michael Quach [Stockyards] vs Abdul Jouda [Boomerz Boxing] 154/70
Chris Atkins Sr. [Kingsway Boxing Club] vs Ed Hanicak [Stockyards] 185/84
Oliver Kladnik [Stockyards] vs Jordan McCue [ScrapYards Boxing] 160/73
Hayden Manion [Boomerz Boxing] vs Kofi Sarpong [Stockyards] 165/75 .

If you can't make it, Metropolis TV will be there to capture all the action with our new 3-camera setup!
You will be able to watch all the bouts next week on both YouTube or Dailymotion.

Special Sunday Entry

'Comments From the Blue Corner' will publish a special edition on Sunday with the results from Fight Night XXVII.

Computer Fixed, Finally

I was able to fix my computer by cleaning all the Mal out of it.
There were over 2000 infections. I don't think they were all downloaded at the same time. Those were collected over time, but it gives you an idea of how much crap gets on your computer.
I usually do not review products that are not related to boxing, but this one I just have to, and it sort of is related. It helped me fix my computer that I use to write this blog, which is about boxing. So, this review is somewhat indirectly related to boxing. So, there.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you are constantly getting annoying pop-up ads, or your internet is going to weird websites that you haven't heard of, you are likely a victim of Malware.
Malware is used to force you to look at advertising that you may otherwise not wish to see.
Although, it is illegal for a company to put software on your computer without your consent, Malware is very difficult to track where it is from.

Enter 'malwarebytes'.
This is an anti-virus that specializes in the detection and removal of Malware.
You get a 14-day free trial of the full version, then after you pay about $30 per year.
This software took about 30 minutes to scan my system, but it was able to find all of the Malware and remove it. Something that would have taken me a week or more to do manually.
I liked the software so much that I paid for a year subscription.
With the subscription, you get free updates, and real-time monitoring. Meaning, that it will block any sign of a Malware attack as it happens.

Get it here: MALWAREBYTES

A Film About the Life of 'The Brick'?

There was a film made about my life as a boxer.
My character is being played by Channing Tatum, who else?.
The film is directed by Steven Spielberg, of course.
Interestingly, it is being released at selected theatres on my birthday.
Here is the poster:
