Sparring Report: Sparring At Toronto Boxing Academy

 ENTRY 341

SPARRING REPORT: STILL NEED TO WORK ON OFFENCE

In-ring training with a professional boxer on Wednesday at Stockyards.

I also sparred eight rounds at the Toronto Boxing Academy on Thursday.

Here is a one-round sample from Thursday's sparring:
SPARRING

It was pointed out to me that I still need to be busier. I often wait to long to attack. In boxing, you should never wait for your opponent to move. Be first.
That is what I will be working on for the next week or so, or however long I need.

I will be doing a bit more training at Toronto Boxing Academy next week.

Other than that, there is not much happening being that we are in the middle of a super-hot summer.

Keep in touch with 'Blue Corner' for some special big announcements on the way.

There is also a possibility of sparring on Saturday afternoon at the Toronto Boxing Academy.

TRAINING AT TORONTO BOXING ACADEMY

I have been invited to do some training on Saturday at Toronto Boxing Academy with Coach Brock.
This will be my first time working with the Boxing Academy boxers. I look forward to working with this great bunch of guys.
I would also like to thank Coach Brock for the opportunity.

Possible Bout In Orangeville (Again)

 ENTRY 338

SPARRING REPORT

It is completely and totally odd that there was no sparring on Monday.
Traditionally Monday has been 'the' sparing day at Stockyards.
There was no sparring on Tuesday, either.
I hope to get some on Wednesday and Thursday.

POSSIBLE BOUT IN ORANGEVILLE

Coach Mackie of the Orangeville Boxing Club has a Master who wants to compete on the Orangeville card on September 9.
Richard has been working the details with him.
However, until it is confirmed, I am staying on regular training schedule. I am not going to train my ass off only to be setup for disappointment.

I will keep everyone updated on this.

MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH OBA OFFICIALS

I got a chance to talk a bit with the Ontario Boxing Association officials while I was video recording on Saturday.

The OBA has a different affiliation than Boxing Ontario. Boxing Ontario is affiliated with Boxing Canada.
Ontario Boxing Association is affiliated with the World Boxing Association.
You have all heard of the WBA, right? Well, they apparently have an amateur division, of which the OBA is affiliated.
That means a whole different set of rules.

One big difference I noticed between the WBA and Boxing Canada was simplicity.
Boxing Canada has rules based on division, age, and gender. With the WBA, the rules are universal. That means a much simpler system. Every boxer wears the same gear, does the same number of rounds, and so on.

The WBA does have something that Boxing Ontario does not have, a semi-pro division. They call it the Elite division.
This is for boxers who have expressed an interest in becoming a professional. It prepares them for professional competition.
They do not wear headgear or tops. They also do five rounds, as opposed to three for the amateurs.

Also, the OBA does not change officials between bouts. They use the same referee for the entire card.
That makes it so much more efficient. When one bout is finished, the next set of boxers and the officials are ready for the next.

Simple and efficient.

It makes one think as to why Boxing Canada does not switch to a system similar to the WBA?

Below is a chart summarizing the differences between the two organizations as per what I have found out so far:

If I do decide to switch to OBA, it will have to wait until my Boxing Ontario expires.
Although, there is nothing in the rules that I can find that indicate a boxer can not hold two simultaneous sanctions, I have been advised to not do it.

Video Of Bouts Ready Soon

There is a delay in the editing of the production, since I am the only one working on it. I have no student assistants since they are away for the summer.
It should be ready by the weekend.

Pad Work Instead of Sparring ?

 ENTRY 337

SPARRING REPORT

No sparring on Wednesday or Thursday, but Richard did some pad work with me on Thursday, a good alternative to sparring.
The fact that he worked with me is very unusual, because he never does that.
I'm serious. It has been over a year since Richard has done pad work with me. He usually leaves that for Will to do.
Not that I don't appreciate Richard doing work with me. It is just unusual that out of the blue he called me in the ring for pads.

Missed Mississauga

 ENTRY 336

SPARRING REPORT: MONDAY AND TUESDAY

I did three rounds on Monday with focus on offence.
I also did two rounds on Tuesday keeping with working on being busy.

MISSED MISSISSAUGA (BOUT POSTPONED)

Richard does not think I should compete in Mississauga.
The reasons are....complicated.

I was pissed, because I started training for this and I told this guy that I wanted to compete with him in Mississauga.  Now I look like a huge ass.

Therefore, there will be no competition for me until at least the next Stockyards' card on October 1.
