Sparring the "New" Guy? Awkward!

ENTRY 259

Sparring The "New" Guy ?

Oh, geez. You know. I have been over this before.
I am not a huge fan of sparring guys who have never been in the ring before.
For some reason, I am the one who always seems to get stuck with that "job".
I am far from being a beginner, and sparring the "new" guys really throws me off.
It is because I really don't know what to do. Should I go easy, or not so easy?
Also, since they have never before been in the ring, they are generally awkward, and therefore make me look awkward.
When the coach is watching, that last thing I want to do is look like an idiot.
Then again, there may be a reason why the coach wants me to work with these guys.

Junmar was watching also, and he was obviously not impressed. He shook his head and walked away.
Its amazing how I noticed that while sparring, isn't it?
Well, it is difficult to impress Junmar. He has very high standards. Not that its wrong to have high standards, but walking away may not be the right answer either.

I don't know about Monday. It did not seem to be a very good sparring day for me.
Although, a lot of guys showed up, Richard had me only do two rounds with Fabio.

Yeah, Richard is back to restricting me to two rounds of sparring each day, and we all know why: "Too old".

Speaking of "old".
One of my co-workers' dad is a boxer. He is 60, and he trains at Cabbagetown.
Interesting how he is not "too old" for anything.
Actually, he is coaching now, and will apparently be at the next Stockyards' card.
With any luck, he will see me compete.
At this point, I'd be happy to just see myself compete.

"The Brick", Becoming A Heavyweight, Again

Richard said that he is looking for an opponent, and with my weight gain, it will now be a bit easier.
Yes. I gained. Somehow, I gained six pounds over the last two months. Oddly, I did not get fatter. That is a good thing, of course.
The question is, where did I gain? I don't see any change, but every scale I step on shows a gain.
The wife said that my chest and arms are bigger.
I never noticed, but then again, I really don't admire myself in the mirror.
Maybe I should...
