Short Week At Stockyards
Monday is was the only day I can get into Stockyards this week. I am on afternoons for the rest of the week, but I am off all of Labour Day weekend.
Stockyards will be closed for Labour Day as well, so my next sparring session will be next Tuesday.
Sparring Report, and "The Brick" Gets Broken {Again}
Four rounds of sparring this week is all I will get, and it is just as well.
I got to spar Kofi again.
The last time I sparred him was last week, and he wasn't so active. He threw mostly just jabs, but was still challenging.
This week, however, he was a bit more aggressive.
He used his right more. He actually nailed me with a right-cross to the jaw four times. Really hard. A couple of times it knocked me off balance.
Oh, yeah, he tee'd off on me good.
I really honestly think he was trying to knock me out.
That was this past Monday, and the last Monday, Tyler smashed my ribs good.
That is two times getting a butt-kicking within just over a week.
If Richard was around, he would have said it is because I am too old.
Age has nothing to do with it. These are both better boxers.
That is exactly why I like to have a variety of sparring.
Not that I want nor need a butt-kicking every week, but it is good to know where I stand as a boxer.
I saw where I needed to work on defence. Up to now I thought my defence was good.
It was, but not good enough.
I have to admit, I was getting cocky. Until recently, I was basically having my way with my sparring partners.
Last week, Tyler brought me down a notch.
This week, Kofi took me down two notches.
Yeah. I kind of had the cockiness knocked out of me.
Boxing tends to do that more so than other sports.
Every athlete in every sport needs a butt-kicking now and then. It prevents us from becoming too cocky.
I don't care how good an athlete thinks he is. I don't believe that anyone is the best at anything. There is always someone better. It is a never-ending cycle.
