Out of the Frying Pan and Into...Another

Okay, so as of last report, my security company removed me from Liberty Plaza over that stupid broken window situation.
Yesterday, they assigned me a new location. Metro Place.
Metro Place is owned by...Liberty Investments. Yes, the same company that owns Liberty Plaza.
So, in other words, the exact same thing is going to happen again???

(Whisper mode) Resumé update....resumé update...resumé update...Shhhhh!

Actually, nobody at my workplace reads this.
I know, because nobody there knows that I am a boxer.
I told one of the managers last week, and he was very surprised.
He told me that he really likes boxing.
So, that is how I know that I am safe knowing that the managers don`t read this column. Besides, even if they do, I damn well have the right to my opinion.
So...bite me.
Also, you might notice that I never mention the name of the company that I currenty work for.

Boxing Product Review: Boxing Simulator

I do this sometimes, when I find an interesting boxing-related product.

This week, I finally found a decent boxing simulator for Windows. Called "Real Boxing".

Some may ask, "Why do you need a boxing simulator, if you box for real?"
That is a good question, with a good answer: It is because the simulaor lets me win once in a while.

This game is a lot of fun with really good graphics.

It really is very close to real boxing.
You can go to the gym and train, and get better. As with in "carrer" mode, or tournament mode, you can not chose your opponents, who get better each time.
You can also do a "Quick Fight". You can pick your opponent, but the results do not count on your record.

Boxers have limited stamina, with is improved by training at the gym. Stamina is indicated by a yellow bar, and when depleted, the boxer will have reduced power.
A red band indictes "life". When depleted, it will be a knock-down. Depending on the boxer's strength, will depend how fast, or if, he will recover from the knock-down.

At the end of each round, punch stats are displayed.
At the end of each bout, scores are displayed.

Within the Options section, you can chose how many rounds in each bout, and the length of each.
There is also a 'blood' option, which defaults to being disabled. Turning on will display blood on your boxers, and around the ring.

Here are some screenshots, to give you an idea of the gameplay.
In this game, I managed three knockdowns.
Yeah, sure. I wish I could do that in real life!

There are a lot of shots, since I wanted to give you a good idea of how the game looks:

See the entire gameplay here:

'REAL BOXING' GAMEPLAY  (One game/opponent, No audio) (From screenshots, above)

'REAL BOXING' GAMEPLAY (Two games/opponents, full audio and commentary)

"Real Boxing"  available from Steam.... $5.49 CAD / $4.99 USD
Requires Window XP or higher, with 512 MB graphics RAM, and 3 GB system RAM with at least a dual-core processor.

(More) Big Time Fails

More funny and odd, and somewhat disturbing photos from the internet:

What's on Wednesday?

My bag certainly wouldn't fit.

Disturbing.

I'd better not comment on this.

You might want to get that looked at.

You've been told.

What???

According to Pizza Pizza, this is a square.

No, thanks.

Wow! Don't you just love Walmart's "sales"?

Stupid sprouts.

This is just disturbing.

From "After Midnight With 'The Brick" Archives

My radio program is currently on hiatus, but I would like to share with you some of the files from the archives.

Starting with this one.

One of the regular features was the "Top Whatever List". This was very popular. It consisted of a 'David Letterman' style list, but the number of items varied from four to twelve, depending on the content. Thus, the name "Top Whatever List".

Here is one from last December.
Enjoy.

The 100-Years Auction

I would like to start this week`s entry with an "auction oopsie".
Here is a rare mistake I saw at auctionmaxx.com.
It really points out the need for proofreading.

Your grandchildren could bid on this. Although, I'm not sure how much these would be worth 100 years from now.

As of the publishing of this entry, this has still not been fixed.
See the actual listing here:

Farewell To Liberty Plaza

Such as is security, that very often, you do not stay at the same place for long.
After just six months, I am being moved away from Liberty Plaze at 865 York Mills Road.
I do not know where I will be going, but will likely find out on Monday.
I will be keeping my weekend shifts at Bathurst and St. Clair, for now anyway.

I would now like to pay tribute to my home-away-from-home for the past six months.

The crappy security office in the basement.

During my last hour, a 95E York Mills Express broke down right in front of the plaza.
How symbolic.

Good bye, Liberty Plaza.

What's Next For 'The Brick'?

I did not get a call about an opponent in Brantford.
I was on standby for that card.

Richard has not announced a card for June, so I am not sure if Stockyards will be having one.
However, Gideon is hosting a card in June, if not Stockyards.
Hopefully I can get at least one bout in before the summer, and a couple in the fall.

I train very hard.
I am at the boxing gym four times a week, and I do cardio and weight training at another gym at least twice a week. If anyone deserves the right to compete, it is I.

It pisses me off. There are guys out there who are in my class and category, but won't compete.
I've mentioned this before.
Why the hell are you spending time at a boxing gym, if you are not going to compete?
At least give it a try.

Stockyards Boxing On ! COMBAT | TV

Last week`s card is now available on ! COMBAT | TV

FIGHT NIGHT XXIV

We had to go back to using ScrewTube, because for some reason Daily Slow-tion has put a cap on file size.

The Cobra Is Going To Brantford

There is a card in Brantford next Saturday afternoon.
Leo `The Cobra`will be going.
Although, my name was submitted, but so far there is no opponent for me.
However, Richard told me to be "on standby" in case someone comes by at the last minute.

Even if I am not going to be there, good luck to Leo.
He will be re-matching Mark Laidman.
I was being considered as an opponent for Mark, but there is too much weight difference. Mark is almost 200 pounds.

Bus Etiquette

Since there is not much happening in boxing this week, I thought I would take this time to rant.
This week is about `how to ride the bus`, since so many people in Toronto don`t know how.

RULE 1: When the bus gets to the terminal, people will use both doors to exit, and then use both doors to enter. This is done to speed-up the process of exchanging passengers. Trying to enter before the bus is empty, defeats the purpose, and is rude.

RULE 2: Bringing large items and baby carriages on the bus, when the bus is crowded, is inconvenient and not safe. Therefore, grow a brain, and don't do it.

RULE 3: Blocking the entrance of the bus is also inconvenient and not safe. If there are seats, park your fat ass in one of them. If there are none, move your butt to the back of the bus. As well, you don't block the exit door for the same reason.

RULE 4: It does not matter how much you think you have between your legs, nobody wants to see your size xs joke. Keep your legs closed, and use only one seat. That being said, that also means keeping your crap off the seats. It is a public vehicle, not your personal storage space. Put your shit on the floor, especially when you see the bus is getting packed.

RULE 5: Don't talk to the driver. It is dangerous. Also, it is highly likely that whatever you are saying, the driver doesn't care. Learn how to use a map, and read the destination signs. Those nice bright orange LED signs on the bus, are there for a reason other than to be a decoration.

RULE 6: Nobody wants to hear your shitty music. Always use headphones at a volume others can't hear.

RULE 7: This may seem as a surprise to some of you, but riding the bus is not free. Wow! You need a ticket, cash, or a pass. Now that you know that, have your fucking fare ready before you board, instead of holding up the whole line.

RULE 8: Speaking of a line, Learn how to use one. Standing offside, and then swinging in front of the rest of the line when the bus gets there, is rude, and socially unacceptable in Canadian culture.

Now that you all understand how to ride the bus, I don't expect to see any of this shit ever again.
