I Sparred the Hell Out of That ~ I Found It

    ENTRY 454

I SPARRED THE HELL OUT OF THAT

Last week I ended up doing 7 rounds of sparring on Friday. That made up a total of 23 rounds for the week.
That is a decent amount of sparring.

My goal is at least 10 rounds per week, but the previous week I was sick and so I had to make up for a couple of days.

I FINALLY FOUND IT

I have been looking for a while for the film "Cinderella Man". A few years, actually, but recently I have wanted to see it more since I found out my coach was in it.

After looking for so long all over Toronto, I finally found it...at a Value Village in Hamilton.

It is a really good film. It has an 8 of out 10 rating on imdb.com. However, I was a bit disappointed. My coach's part was very small. Actually, it was minuscule and you couldn't really see his face, but you can hear his voice.

In the scene, he is a cornerman for boxer Art Lasky played by actor Mark Simmons.

He slaps his boxer in the face and says. "Pay attention!", and it was very clear in Coach Johnny's voice.

Like I said, not a huge part, but still a great film.

...and it is cool to know someone who was in a major film.

Family Day Sparring Special

    ENTRY 453

FAMILY DAY SPARRING SPECIAL

We had a sparring session this past Monday. We usually have a sparring session on holiday mornings. It is usually just with the competitive boxers.
I did 9 rounds.

I took Tuesday off because I had a meeting at work, but I returned on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday we sparred again and I did 7 rounds.
I'm not sure if there will be sparring on Thursday, but there always is on Friday.
My goal is to do at least 5 rounds on Friday. That will be a total of 21 rounds for the week.
My coach will be happy.

That is one of the things I really like about Cabbagetown. There is always sparring and the coaches want their competitors to spar as much as possible.

In addition to sparring, I have been doing weight training, core, and conditioning, of course.

So far I am not sure when I will be stepping into the ring to compete again. However, in the meantime, I will continue training to get stronger and lighter. It will be a challenge but not impossible.
The coach wants me to drop a weight class and boost upper-body strength.
That will be my goal for at least another month or so.
Beyond that, who knows?
Things can change at any time.
All I know for sure is that there will be no more tournaments for me, but I do want to do at least one club show for Cabbagetown this spring.

'THE BRICK' TO START FULL-TIME VIDEO POST-PRODUCTION

Since nobody wants to fire me to do video post-production, I will be starting my own business.

I have ordered a new computer and monitor from Dell since the one I have now is not reliable enough to use for a business.
I am willing to give Dell another chance since the last time I bought a computer from them it catastrophically failed after just two years.
The only reason they are getting another chance is because they still allow you to customize.

I have ordered an i7 with 32GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, 512GB solid-state drive, and 6GB graphics card. I am also going to get a new video editing software. I will also be getting a 32" monitor.

Once the new system is set up I will be officially be offering this service through Fiverr.
When I move into my new condo, I will finally have my own studio for audio and video productions.
I will also be using my "old" computer to run RAdiO C: \65 full time.

Back To Normal (For Now)

    ENTRY 452

BACK TO NORMAL (FOR NOW)

With no more tournaments in the near future, I have returned to a normal training level.
That means four or five times per week. Tuesday to Friday mornings at Cabbagetown for boxing technical, sparring, and conditioning. Plus, once per week for running and sprinting at the University of Toronto Athletics Department.

I am not sure when I will be competing again but it will be a club event.

I know that my coaches want me to drop a weight class again.
I am working on that and then I think once that is done I will be able to start competing in club shows again.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I will not be in tournaments anymore. They are too stressful and time-consuming. I can't afford to take an entire weekend off for a tournament and then end up not being able to go for one reason or another.
At least for a club show, I only need one shift off.

In the meantime, please have a look at my new website.

No More Tournaments For Me

    ENTRY 451

BRAMPTON CUP - BUSTED

What would have been an exciting Brampton Cup with a record number of masters registered, turned out to be a bust.

Apparently, there were too many people registered and they had to cancel some bouts.
They ended up canceling all but two of the master's bouts.

I am not sure how many others they canceled, but in my opinion, they should not have canceled the masters.
The younger guys have lots of chances to get into tournaments and the masters don't.
That was my last chance of being in the Brampton Cup and now I will never know what it is like to be in it.

The guy from Detroit who I was supposed to have but ended up with another opponent, he decided that he was not ready and canceled.
That left only one masters bout. It was on Saturday afternoon.

Although I am a bit annoyed about it, I will move on and keep training.

I have decided that I am going to slowly start my retirement as a competitive boxer.
Slowly.
I will not be going into any more tournaments but will continue to compete in local club events. Of course, I will continue to train and spar.

I don't know exactly when I will wrap-up my chapter of competitive boxing. I will continue at least into 2020. After which I will consider becoming an official. Boxing Ontario needs officials with competitive boxing experience.

That was part one of the big announcement I was going to make.
There is a part two, but I am not ready to announce it yet.
