Taking A Short Vaca !

ENTRY 194

NEXT BOUT: September 27 @ George Bell Arena, vs. "Matt"

TAKING A VACA

I have been training very hard lately, and have not had a lot of time to enjoy summer. Not that this has been a great summer for weather.
I have decided to take a few days off from the gym. Just because...
I did not go to any gym on Wednesday or Thursday, and will not go on Friday.
Richard asked me to come in for sparring on Saturday morning.
That will be the next time I go in.

After that, no more time off, as I have to prepare for September 27.

MONDAY SPARRING

Monday, I sparred four rounds in a row.
Richard wanted me to focus on attacking from the inside.
This is a tactic Richard likes his boxers to use against guys with longer reach.

Inside attack is hard, because your instinct is to not want to get too close.
I think I mentioned before, one of the things that makes boxing difficult is that you have to ignore your basic instincts.

UPGRADED INTERNET AND TV SERVICES...WOW?

I was finally able to pick up my new modem and TV receiver from Rogers.

I have to say, I am impressed with the Internet service.
I can now download an entire album from iTunes in 14 seconds, and a movie in just under 3 minutes.
Yeah, the service is great while it is working. I mean, it's Rogers, so you know it won't last.

Included with the modem was a "Terms Of Service" guide.
You know how fast that ended up in the Recycle bin?
I am the customer. The only Terms Of Service that matter, are mine.

They also gave me a Nextbox 3 for the TV.
It is a piece of crap. It is smaller, and only has one set of audio outputs.
The other once had two sets.
I could feed the TV and DVD recorder.
Now I have to "Y-off" to feed both components.
It is not recommended to do that, as Y-cords are parallel connections, and therefore will decrease the output impedance, which will affect your signal-to-noise ratio and frequency response curve.
I am going to have to get a distribution amplifier.

Maybe they will have one at the online action...

Welcome to a new column on this blog:

This is 'Auction Finds', a segment that has been transferred from "Videos From the Blue Corner".
Here I will share with you my action wins from Auctionmaxx and other online auctions.

Here are the latest finds:

This kitchen scale has an additional feature where you can type in a code, and get extended nutritional information, such as calories.
Sells retail for $40. I paid $16.

Title boxing equipment bag. Sells retail for $50. I paid $18.

A lot of 30 headset/microphones. Normally sell for $10 each. I paid $9 for the lot.

Anyone need a headset? I have a few.

Not the Brightest Bulb In Brampton

ENTRY 193

NEXT BOUT:  September 27 @ George Bell Arena, vs. Leo "Cobra" Ronin [tentative]

MONDAY AND TUESDAY SPARRING

Three rounds on Monday, two on Tuesday.
Sparred Mr. Kladnick again, and he does hit really hard. I also did a couple with Newton.
For a little guy, he hits really hard.
At one time he plowed me right in the face.
What is it with these small guys, lately?
They move really fast, and they can hit.
I like sparring them, because they keep me moving, but at the same time its a pain in the ass.

On Tuesday I did a couple with this new guy, a big guy, but he did not use any offence at all. Apparently Richard wanted him to practice defense only.

No other sparring this week.
Although, I was in on Thursday, nobody sparred because it was too hot.
Yeah, that has not happened often this summer, has it?

NOT THE BRIGHTEST BULB IN BRAMPTON

Why is it that I always seem to find the dim bulbs in this world?

I want to say that I really enjoy the city of Brampton, so far.
However, leave it to me to find possibly the one and only dimwit in that city.

Since I am no longer stepping foot inside the shitty of Pississauga, I have been having to buy my coffee in Brampton.

There is an Esso at the corner of Kennedy Road and Steele Avenue, and they have a self-serve Tim Hortons.
I have never heard of a self-serve Tim Hortons before.
However, it is a good thing, since I can be sure that my coffee order will be correct.

Anyway, last Friday I went in, to get my self-serve coffee and a self-serve blueberry muffin.
This guy at the cash takes my muffin to enter it, and does not give it back.
I asked him where my muffin was, and he said, "I don't know."
What do you mean, "I don't know"? You just had it in your hand five seconds ago.
This idiot managed to lose a customer's product within six and a half centimeters between the counter and the cash register, and then does not know where it is.

Yeah, that's great guy. Enjoy your career working at a gas station. You are too stupid for anything else.

Seriously!

What the hell is this deal?
I always seem to find the dim bulbs in society no mater where I am.

Then, this Friday, I went in again, and there was hardly any coffee left.

Dimwit yells from the counter, "No coffee! You have to wait!"

He wasn't busy. He was standing there daydreaming while staring at the ceiling.
Here is an idea: Instead of daydreaming, how about making some coffee?

Don't tell me to wait. I happen to be on my way to work.
Get off your ass and do your job.

There was only enough coffee left for a medium, which is not enough to keep me going for night shift. I need at least a large.

I'm not sure if it was the same dimwit from last week, but I say once again: Enjoy your career at the gas station.

Big Brother Is Back

ENTRY 192

NEXT BOUT: September 27 @ George Bell Arena, vs. Leo Ronin [rematch] (tentative)

MONDAY AND THURSDAY SPARRING

Four rounds on Monday.
Focusing on offense right now.
Richard wants me to work on my hooks and uppercuts.

Three rounds on Thursday with Mark.
Junmar wanted me to do more, but I had to leave to get ready for work.
Mark came in as I was leaving, and wanted to spar. Although, he had not been around all summer.

I have been noticing a steady increase in my performance over the summer, compared to other guys on the team.
That goes without saying, since I am practically living at the gym.

That being said...

JUNMAR'S MILD FREAK-OUT

On Tuesday, Junmar caught me 'cheating' at my training.
I was stopping before the end of the round, on the Yellow light.
He said to me, "The round ends on Red, not Yellow. Do you want to win? If you are not ready, we are not putting you on the card."

I can understand why he is doing it, but he knows full well that he can't say
shit.
I am the most dedicated boxer on the team right now.
From what I have observed, I am the only one showing up 3 or 4 times a week all summer.

I am taking this very seriously.

If they put Ronin on the card, they have to put me.
Leo does fuck all. He only goes in once a week. Does a couple rounds of shadow boxing with light dumbells, and maybe spar a couple rounds, and calls it a big Goddamn deal.
I have never seen him pick up a rope, or even hit the bag.

Junmar knows I work hard.
He is just doing what every good trainer does.
Sometimes athletes need a kick in the butt.
All athletes, all sports.

I know him enough to understand what he is doing.
If he didn't care, he would not say anything. He wants his athletes to be successful.

Okay, here is something very creepy.

I found out that the City of Mississauga is tracking people who use their public transit system, MiWay.

It is interesting that these people (MiWay), just happen to know when and where I am on their system at any time.

How else can you explain that magical appearance by you friendly neighbourhood Transit Enforcement last week at Islington?
How the hell did he know that I would be at that platform, at that terminal, at that time?

Also MiWay "customer service" always seems to know exactly which buses I take, and at what time.
How could they possibly know that if I didn't tell them?

They have cameras, they also have my name phone number and address through contact with "customer service".

Even calling their automated service, they can collect your number, and they can see you calling on the camera. They now have a face to match the phone number.

I am not one of those "Conspiracy Theory" nutjobs, but they are collecting personal information, and using cameras to track people without permission.

I can understand them wanting to track the usage of their system, but as a general usage. Not an individual. It is unethical and against the law. That is a violation of the Privacy Act.

It is quite possible that their intentions are harmless, but that is not the point.
They should not be doing it.

The city of Mississauga is just as bad if they know about it and are allowing it, and if they don't know this is happening, they should.

Therefore, as far as I am concerned, Mississauga does not exist. That space between Toronto, Oakville and Brampton is just a void waiting to be filled.

I am no longer using Mississauga Transhit. I am using Brampton Transit, which is actually pretty good.

It is not that difficult, and takes the same amount of time, despite having to take an additional bus.
I go to Kipling station, and take the 191 Highway 27 Express to Humber College, which takes 20 minutes. I then wait 5 minutes for the Brampton Number 11 Steeles, and take that to Kennedy Road, which takes 25 minutes, then I wait about 10 minutes for a southbound Number 7 Brampton bus, which drops me off right in front of work, in about 5 minutes. With Mississauga, I had to walk 10 minutes from Courtneypark Drive.

The service is better than MiWay, too.
Buses on most routes are every 7 - 10 minutes during rush hour, and are actually on time. The drivers are friendly, and I have yet to find an asshole on a Brampton bus.
Another thing, they have heated shelters. Although we don't need it now, it will come in handy in a few months when we return to the minus forty's.

Although none of this is saying much, since it is known that Mississauga has the worst transit system in Ontario. Brampton Transit has come a long way the last few years. Where Mississauga Transit has been getting worse.

Mississauga claims that MiWay has an 82% customer satisfaction.
That means squat.
They only survey people whom they know will give a good review.

Its true. They were conducting a survey on a bus, and I was the only one she didn't ask.
They never ask me, because they know I will give them a bad review.
For example, if 1000 people don't like the service, and 100 people do. Then, they only survey the 100 who they know like the service, they will have a 100% satisfaction.
Big deal. That means nothing.
That is another stunt they pull.

Brampton does not have cameras, and they currently are  not conducting surveys.

Who knows? Brampton may be a city I visit more often.
Actually, I think I will.

Mississauga's loss, is Brampton's gain.

Mississauga...We Really Suck.

Tuesday Sparring Report

ENTRY 191

NEXT BOUT: September 27 @ George Bell Arena, vs. Leo Ronin [rematch] (tentative)

SPARRING, ONE-DAY ONLY

Sparring only on Tuesday this week, but Rick wants me to come in Saturday morning.
I sparred 4 rounds with Dharius again. I like sparring him because he keeps me moving, but that little guy can really hit, now
I'm surprised, he is getting 'ballsy'.

He actually nailed me quite hard with a couple of good hooks.
That's okay, he is still a good sparring partner.

Richard was happy with my performance, and that is my main concern. If the coach is happy, I'm happy.

SEPTEMBER COME SOON !

Rick said to me yesterday, "Train hard. September will be here soon."

That reminds me of the film "The Karate Kid", when Mr, Miyagi said to Daniel, "Tournament be here soon."
Daniel said' "That's what I'm afraid of."
Well, I have to say I am a bit afraid.

It looks like I will be having a rematch with Leo Ronin, and my greatest fear is another loss.
I really can't lose to him again.

Richard is right. I have to train very hard now, as I don't think I can win by decision, because Boxing Ontario judges don't like me.
Therefore, the only way I can win is to take him out somehow.

I am a bit pissed off because Leo does not take boxing seriously. That is obvious by how he trains. I have never seen him pick up a jump rope.
I trained my butt off and he still manged to win last time. Well, he didn't. It is just that the judges were not paying attention.

BLAIR IS OUT OF MY HAIR

Well, with so many things bad happening to me, some good news did come upon me.
Police Chief Bill Blair will not be continuing his post.

I have to say that is the best decision the Police Services Board has ever made.

Toronto Police Services has been going downhill ever since Bill Blair became Chief. It can only get better.

Not only that, there was the whole G20 thing, and the streetcar incident.
I mean, when your police department is involved in two lawsuits based on the fact that you officers don't have a clue what they are doing...

Who is responsible for making sure police are properly trained?

Also, with the police wasting time hanging around the subway station.
I complained about that a few times.

I can't believe that he even bothered to apply for a contract renewal. Is he that naive to think that he would be renewed after all this?

He deserves to be fired.

Thank you to the Police Services Board for making the right decision, and hopefully a step closer to making the Toronto Police Services the great Department it once was.

With so many problems with Mississauga, I have decided to give them their own column.
Congratulations.
However, to get your own column on this blog is not a good thing.

Welcome to "Mississauga--We Really Suck".

Still a lot of problems with MiWay (The new Mississauga Transhit, New name--same old shit)

Well, my friends at Mississauga Transhit sent "Transit Enforcement" to talk to me again.
Apparently, the Customer Service Cry-Babies were not happy with how I talk to them.
Boo-hoo, let me get out the violin.
I don't understand what they expect Transit Enforcement to do. What the hell can they do? Transit Enforcement only has the power to enforce bi-laws.

These people are stupid. They are just pissed off because I don't put up with their shit.
Do you see why these people annoy me?

I have spoken with a legal council, because I am planning on filing a case against MiWay. Although, I can not provide any more details at this time.

I have been advised to report **everything** that I see happening on MiWay property in professional incident reports, as if I was reporting as a security guard.
However, I am not to communicate with anyone except Customer Service, and by email only. I am to keep copies of all emails sent and received.
That means that if the cry-babies want to sent Enforcement again, well, too bad. I can't communicate with them. Everything will now all have to go through Customer Service only.

I am now seriously thinking of breaking-down and using Brampton transit instead. The problems I am having with the Presto fare system do not come close to the headaches I get from Mississauga Transhit.

As for Pizza Pizza, I have not been ordering from them lately. Too expensive for one thing, and they are idiots for another.

I have been forgetting to mention Tim Horton's. The location at Courtneypark Drive and Kennedy Road seem to have huge problems with simple orders.

I always order a coffee from them on the way to work, because it is the closest to work, and the coffee at work is crap.
If I order from a Toronto location, as i prefer, the coffee will be cold by the time I get to work on those slow Mississauga buses.

Here is my order for coffee: Large with two milk and two sweetener.
Simple isn't it? Not for them, apparently.
For the last four times, here is what I received:
1: Large coffee, milk only.
2: Large coffee, sweetener only.
3: Large coffee, cream and sweetener
4: Large coffee, milk and sugar

Really?
How difficult is that order?
At least they were able to get "large" correct.

Only in Mississauga.

Unfortunately, I am kind of stuck there until I move to Montreal, which is 13 months away.
Oh, yeah, I am counting the months, now.
End of September, 2015, it will be bye-bye Ontario, and Mississauga can pucker-up and kiss my ass.

Mississauga--We Really Suck.

Skipping Like A Broken Record

ENTRY 170

NEXT BOUT:  September 27 @ George Bell Arena  [Opponent TBA]

Skipping Like A Broken Record

Junmar gave me some crap on Tuesday, because I went in and started shadow boxing, and did not skip first. I did a warm up and stretch, but that was not good enough for him.
He said, "Why don't you skip?" "You are supposed to skip before shadow boxing."" You don't even know how, because you don't do it."
Well, Junmar, it is like this: I didn't feel like it.

I am not taking anything away from Junmar's abilities. He is a trainer, and he is doing his job.
I am just pissed off that I got caught not doing something I know I am supposed to be doing.
At the same time, I think it is a bit blunt of him to say I can't skip. I have been doing it for over 5 years. I think I can handle it.
Besides, I have never seen Junmar's 'buddy', "The Cobra", pick up a rope even once.
How does he get away with it?

Sparring Report, Monday and Thursday

Sparring this week on Monday and Thursday.

I sparred Leo "The Cobra" on Monday, and that guy is getting really good.
He had me on the ropes six times, but for some really strange reason, I had absolutely no energy.
I did not have the strength to push him off, or pivot around. It was as if I didn't care. Seriously, I could not get him away from me.
I think I may have still been feeling the affects of that virus I had last week that took me out of commission for a few days.
My physician prescribed some antibiotics, and since then I have been feeling better, and the swelling has gone down.

I felt better for sparring on Thursday.
Richard threw me in for a few rounds with Phil.
Phil is the same size as I, but is a bit more experienced.
That is a good thing, since you can learn from a more experienced sparring partner.

There will be no sparring on Monday, as Stockyards will be closed, so I will be training at Bloor Fitness.

Trae Bien

There is a "new" guy training with the Stockyards team right now.
I am not sure where he is from. He seems like a really good boxer, and has been doing it for a while.
I would actually like to spar him.
His name is Trae.

I don't usually stereotype, but I would like all of you to right now, picture in your mind -- a boxer.
You have the picture?
That's Trae.

Seriously. He looks exactly how most people imagine a boxer to look.

Anyway, I have not seen him for the past week.
When he comes back, I am going to see about getting in a round or two with him.

The Honest Truth About Mississauga (Without Complaining)

I don't really want to dwell on the Mississauga problems too much, but last entry I went ballistic, and for good reason.
However, I have come to realize that the fact that Mississauga is stupid, is really not my problem.

You see, it does not matter to me where I spend my disposable income.
Mississauga is losing. I am not spending time there, thus, not spending money there, and that affects their economy and jobs.
It also means that my friends, who also have disposable income, will probably not visit Mississauga either.

Pizza Pizza and MiWay are currently the only contacts I have with that city, so if my experience with the is poor, I will have bad feeling about that city, and thus not want to visit it.

Save the problems with Pizza Pizza, as that is a private company and they don't know any better. Even if that is the only Pizza Pizza with crappy service, it is the only one I deal with in Mississauga.

Interestingly, I did find a Denny's near where I work, at Courtneypark Drive and Hurontario Street. It is open 24/7.
If I find out they deliver, that will be it for Pizza Pizza.

Anyway, I can excuse Pizza Pizza, because --its Pizza Pizza-- and it is common knowledge that they are idiots.
However, I expect a lot more from Mississauga Transit.

City services should treat visitors with respect.
How do they know? I doesn't matter. They should be treating everyone with respect.
That is customer service.

Customers can do anything they want, and will complain when they see fit. If you are in a customer-facing position, such as a bus driver, you are going to get complaints. Live with it.

I did customer service for 10 years.
Customer service people don't get paid enough to really care. They are paid to 'pretend' to care.

The problem is that Mississauga does not do a very good job of pretending.

You can't be blaming your problems on everything else. As far as the customer is concerned, if something happens, it is your fault.

If a bus is late for example, customers don't want to hear about construction or traffic or weather, or whatever. How do we know that the bus driver did not pull over and have a nap? We don't know that.
If someone complains about a bus being late, even if it is to the driver, live with it. Don't complain, don't call an inspector, don't give excuses, and don't blame someone else.
You answer, "I'm sorry about that." Even if you are not.

That's all.

An "Unexpected" Rogers Upgrade

Speaking of poor customer service...Rogers....

They are "upgrading" my Internet service. For no apparent reason.

I will be getting an upload speed of 10 M/s, and a download speed of 40 M/s, plus a total of 320 GB of bandwidth per month.

I think the bandwidth cap is crap. Its not as if it costs Rogers any more to offer unlimited.
However, those speeds are looking good.

I was told by Rogers "customer service" that it would only cost an extra two dollars.
Yeah.
I was also told that my Blackberry hardware upgrade was going to cost $66.
That $66 ended up being $112, due to taxes and service fees.
There it is....Service fees. I knew that was coming.

Therefore, this extra two dollars for the Internet, I know will work out to about $20, by the time Rogers works in their "service fees".

I don't pay much attention to Rogers any more when they tell me how much something is going to cost, because it always ends up costing much more.

By the way, that crappy Q5 Blackberry is pissing me off.
For some reason, the native applications are freezing. Such as the phone.
After I accept or make a call, it freezes, and I can not exit the application. I have to shut down and restart, and that takes about 25 minutes.
Yes. Every time there is a phone call.
The clock application does the same, and there does not seem to be a fix for it.

Also, that touch-screen is garbage. Sometimes it responds to quickly, sometimes too slowly, and most often, not at all.

The next time I work the gatehouse, I am going to throw it under a truck.

If you are on the road, and see a Canada Cartage truck with Blackberry parts hanging off the wheel, you will know what happened.
