Going For the Bronze (Gloves) and An Inside Look

ENTRY 295

Training For the Bronze Gloves

Richard really wants me to train for the Bronze Gloves.
However, he wants me to drop to a lower weight-class. He feels that the Heavyweight Division does not work for me, since I am always at the low end of the division, and all the guys I fight are much heavier.
Right now I am 82 kg, and this weight class starts at 81 kg. That means I only need to drop 2 kg in three weeks. My goal is to drop 3 kg. It is a challenge, but not impossible.

I have had some people say that Richard should have kept me in the Brampton Cup. To at least let me try. I can understand that reasoning.
However, if I had done the Brampton Cup, it would not have been plausible for me to also be in the Bronze Gloves.
Ultimately, there are more opportunities coming out of the Bronze Gloves, as opposed to the Brampton Cup. Since the Bronze Gloves is a qualifying tournament, where the Brampton Cup is just a regular tournament.

Looking at it from Richard's side. He does not want any of his athletes getting hurt. I don't think any coach wants that. He is giving me an additional three weeks to get ready.
Since he is doing that, I am going to give it my "all".
I am going to make the weight, I am going to the Bronze Gloves, and I am going to win the Bronze Gloves. Not only for myself, but for Stockyards Boxing, the coaches, and the rest of the team.

Grading System For Coaches

I mentioned in the last entry that I was cancelling the grading system for coaches.
The reason is that it was very time-consuming to produce, and was more detailed than needed.
I appreciate everything the coaches do for me, even if I get stressed sometimes.
I am trying to hold down a full-time job, take care of family, and be a boxer all at the same time.
It gets to you sometimes.

Fight Night On February 20

It is going to be another great night at Stockyards Boxing on February 20.
Please join us for 'Fight Night XXVII'.
Sanctioned by Boxing Ontario, and sponsored by Amsterdam Brewery.
Tickets are $20, available in advance from the gym, or at the door. Don't wait too long. Stockyards' shows always sell out.

For those who can't make it, Metropolis TV will be capturing all the action, and it will be available by a week later on the Metropolis TV YouTube channel, and on Dailymotion.

Stockyards Boxing Highlights Video

For those of you who are regular followers of this column, and have wondered, "What the hell do you do at Stockyards Boxing?", here is your answer.
A couple of weeks ago, someone came in with a GoPro, and recorded one of our training sessions.
I am impressed with the editing. I don't know who edited this, but it is pretty good.
Also, I am in it.
See if you can find me.
Hint: I'm the one wearing the "Brick green" trunks..
