Not Tonight Honey, I'm In Training
For many years, it has been believed that boxers should not have sex while training for a bout.
Jake LaMotta was well known for this practice. However, even now, it is reported that Manny Pacquiao separates himself from his wife while in training.
The reason for this is that it was believed that sex causes testosterone levels to drop, which causes reduced performance in male athletes.
That makes sense, but recent scientific tests have disproved that claim.
Tests conducted on male athletes before and after sexual activity, have shown no change in testosterone. In some cases, testosterone was slightly higher after sex.
However, don`t dust of the condoms just yet.
There is another reason why athletes should not engage in sex before competing.
This applies to all athletes, all sports, and both genders.
Yes, you read correctly. No athlete should become involved in any type of sexual activity before a major competition. The reason, however, has nothing to do with body chemistry. Its psychological.
It has been found in recent scientific tests, that sex demotivates us.
Simply put, "I'm satisfied, therefore, I don't care".
That being said, this logic could also apply to work.
Getting lucky on Sunday night explains why we don't feel like going to work on Monday morning.
Maybe we should refrain from sex if we need to complete a major project at work.
Great. Another reason for her to say, "No". Never mind headaches.
'Not tonight honey. Work tomorrow.'
The Bleeding Brick
Sparring on Thursday resulted in The Brick's blood all over the ring.
Nick succeeded in smashing my nose. He made me bleed.
He is only the second guy at Stockyards who was able to make me bleed.
The last time was a few months ago, when Kofi nailed me with an uppercut to the nose.
Richard told me to take time off from sparring, and do only running and shadow boxing.
That's fine. I usually do that on weekends, anyway.
Also, now with warmer weather, I have been doing laps around Runnymede Park.
Although, I like to go once a week to High Park to run the trails.
No rest for us boxers.
