TO ALL ATHLETES: ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RULES
I am writing this message as a note to all athletes, not just boxers.
Society has rules, called laws. They exist to prevent chaos.
It is your responsibility to know the rules of society and follow them, as to not follow them will result in consequences.
Athletes who compete in organized sports have an organization or league who are in charge of competition.
These organizations also have rules just like in general society.
Also, like with society's rules, there are penalties for not following them.
On Wednesday, I was suspended by Boxing Ontario, and as a result will no longer be able to participate in any event sanctioned by Boxing Ontario, nor am I allowed to train at Stockyards Gym for the duration of the suspension.
The reason for this was that my last bout was at an event that was not sanctioned by Boxing Ontario, and I went without their permission. Although, the event was sanctioned by another organization, such an activity is not allowed under Boxing Ontario rules.
This could very well turn out to be a permanent ban.
There is going to be a hearing next week to determine the length of the suspension.
In summary, if you are an athlete in competition and you want to do something that you think might be against league rules, check with league officials before doing it.
I am not making any comments on this case until after the hearing.
In the meantime, I am still doing some basic training, but I can not train with Coach Richard.
Once I get the results of the hearing, I will share them here.
