THIS WEEK`S VLOG: ROAD TO HAMILTON -WEEK TWO

Short Blog = Long Rant

Since this entry is shorter than usual, and I have not done this in a while, I think it is time for another rant!

This time it is about Hell...I mean Bell.

My Samsung S6 Edge decided to stop charging. It just simply would not respond when something was plugged into the jack.
I took it in to Bell at the Eaton Centre.
To make a long blog short(er), the device although under a year old is not covered.
The reason is apparently that the connectors inside the charging/transfer port are corroded.
How exactly does that happen?
I mean but for submerging the entire smartphone into water for a length of time, there is no possible way for that much corrosion to occur.
I mean, even if it was exposed to rain. Unless several large drops of rain just happen to fall into the jack, located at the bottom of the device, and it remained wet for more that a few minutes, it is scientifically impossible for the amount of corrosion they claim to cause a complete disconnection could ever occur.

As a result, they will not repair the device under warranty.

Of course they won't. I used to work for Bell technical support, remember?
They will find any reason at all to not have to do a repair under warranty. Since Bell technicians are manufacturer certified, if they do a warranty repair, they are paid only for the exact cost of the repair. Otherwise, for non-warranty repairs, they can charge anything they want and make a profit.
...and I'm sure we all feel sorry for Bell.

This is not just Bell, but all companies that are authorized to do warranty repairs.

Anyway, I have to wait a few weeks to find out how much it will cost to "repair" which generally means replacing the whole board, because simply removing and replacing the faulty part would not be profitable to the repair depot.
That means that I will likely not bother repairing the device, leaving me with three alternatives: Buy a used device; Buy an induction charger for $80 from Bell or for $50 from anywhere else; Change my service provider and get another 'free' device from another carrier, but not Bell and definitely not Rogers.

You know, back when I had a Blackberry, I mean four times in a row, I never had a hardware problem. Say what you will about Blackberry, but it was really good quality hardware.
Too bad you can't get Blackberry any more.

Samsung sucks.

I will never buy another Samsung smartphone.
I think I will go with Motorola or LG. Even Microsoft makes a smartphone.
I am sure any of those will outperform my Samdung.

Anyway. Rant over. Blog over.

Cheers,

'The Brick'

Beast Mode; [ENABLED]

 ENTRY 371

BEAST MODE: [ENABLED]

I have been continuing to have this fire under my butt, and in Beast Mode lately..
Training very hard, but I am still concerned about not getting enough sparring time.
Brock has been doing some pad work with me, and that is great, but I really have some stuff that I need to work on while sparring.

I will discuss with Brock about ways to get more ring time before December 10, which is approaching fast. It is only two weeks now.
Wow!

I do not have much to write in this entry since I am trying to not reveal too much of my training techniques.
However, I have a small vlog entry this week.

Pro Card At Hershey Centre

 ENTRY 370

SEEING MY FIRST PRO SHOW IN MANY YEARS

I can not remember the last time I went to see live professional boxing. It has been at leat 15 years.

Due to traffic problems on the 401, we ended up arriving 20 minutes late, and missed almost all of the first bout.

Two security guards felt me up on the way in. I hope they got a good feel.

Then I found out that I was not getting a floor seat, and ended up in the nosebleeds.

However, I was able to see the reason I was there. My coach Brock Arthur and my friend Mohammed Abedeen.

Brock was in bout three.
He did quite well, but he unfortunately did not impress the judges.

Mohammed was the next bout. Richard and Junmar were there as his coaches.
Mohammed won a unanimous decision.

There were eight bouts total, but I was really only interested in those two.
However, the last two bouts of the evening were quite interesting.

The second-last bout was a controversial win. The man who was knocked down three times ended up winning a decision.
I have always thought that being knocked down was a bad thing.

The last bout ended with a first round knockout.

As I often say, there are no losers in boxing.
You are a winner from the time you climb through those ropes.
Anyone with balls big enough to step into the ring to get hit and to have to hit someone else in front of an audience deserves all the respect in the world.

All of the men who were in the ring on Saturday put on a good show and in my opinion they all deserved to win.

(Coach) Brock Arthur

Mohammed Abedeen

After the main event.

PRE-BOUT DIET BEGINS ON MONDAY

Although training camp began last week, my training diet begins this week.
That means zero junk with more veggies and lean meats.

I will treat myself to one last pizza on Sunday at work, and that will be it until after my bout.

I can go back to a `regular`diet just in time for the holidays.
Interesting how that works out.

A New Hope

 ENTRY 369

A NEW HOPE

I don't know who or how the fire got under my butt, but I am really hyped about this upcoming bout verses Scott Turnbull.

I find that I have been really working harder than ever.
It may be that Coach Brock in some way inspires me.
For the first time in a long time, I have a positive attitude towards training.

On Tuesday he told me that I should jab while I am moving. I believe, 'jab and move' or 'stick and move' is what this is more commonly called.
I have been practising that along with a few other surprises.

I just wish I could get more sparring time somehow.
There are many things I want to work on that I can really only do during sparring.

It is just over three weeks when I will be meeting Scott Turnbull in the ring and in front of many spectators.
I have many mixed feeling about this, but like all other experiences in life, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger".

To see my training progress, my weekly training vlog for this week is ready for viewing below.
It will be the second-last entry until the new year.
As I have mentioned in the past, there will be no vlog or blog during the week before December 10 so I an concentrate 100% on training.

I would like to continue vlogging after a short Holiday break, but the new vlog will be in a slightly different format.
More on that later.

A Bit Of Sparring Saturday and Pro Card Coming Soon

 ENTRY 368

SPARRING REPORT, SATURDAY AND PRO CARD COMING SOON

I sparred four rounds on Saturday morning, working on some specifics to prepare for December 10.

There will be no sparring next week due to Brock will be competing on the professional card at the Hershey Centre.

Also, another professional boxer friend, Mohammed Abedeen will also be on that card.

Speaking of, in an odd turn of events, I will be attending.
This is due to me actually being off on a Saturday, and that someone offered to give me a lift to the event.

Good luck to both Brock and Mohammed next Saturday.
I am confident that the will both kick some pretty good ass.

Pre-Bout Training Starting Now, But the Party Will Continue For Another Week Or So

 ENTRY 367

SPARRING REPORT, TUESDAY

I sparred Shanice four rounds.
She gave me a very interesting pointer. I'm not sharing it with you, but it is something very helpful that I will be practising.

PRE-BOUT TRAINING STARTING EARLIER, BUT STILL PARTYING WHILE I CAN

I have, well actually my coaches have, decided to start training camp now.
My original thought was to start on November 20.
My pre-bout training schedule is in affect immediately.
However, I'm not starting pre-bout diet until November 20.
Therefore, the 'party' will continue a bit longer.

I keep getting treats at work.
After the Halloween party, the board members brought an entire bowl of left over candies and chocolates to my desk.
Om this past Saturday, one of the residents had a birthday party and had this huge slab cake.
Guess where the left-overs ended up?
Cake? Really? That has to be the worst thing for me right now.

Yesterday, somebody brought me a huge Lindt chocolate with hazelnuts. One of my favourite chocolates. It was a 300 gram bar.
I say 'was' because, um, it 'was'.

For now, I'm going to party like its November 19.
At midnight on November 20, its party over, out of time.

"ROAD TO HAMILTON" TRAINING SCHEDULE (Begins  November 20    NOW)

Sunday: {rest day}
Monday: Light cardio...
Tuesday: Technical training [Sparring if available]/heavy bag/abs conditioning/upper body conditioning/double-ended bag/light cardio/legs conditioning...
Wednesday: Technical training [Sparring if available]/heavy bag/abs conditioning/upper body conditioning/double-ended bag/light cardio/legs conditioning... (Vlog production)
Thursday: Technical training [Sparring if available]/heavy bag/abs conditioning/upper body conditioning/double-ended bag/light cardio/legs conditioning...
Friday: Heavy cardio...
Saturday: Sparring...

SUPERVISOR SUPPORT

My supervisor wants to watch me box sometime. He is actually very interested.
He might even go to Hamilton to watch next month.

Oh, great.

Saturday (Morning's) Alright For Fighting

 ENTRY 366

SPARRING REPORT, SATURDAY MORNING

Sparring on Saturday morning.
They brought  in a guy from another gym.
I have to say I really appreciated that. That was something that Richard never did for me.
Anyway, we started doing some technical drills outside the ring.
After four rounds of just doing technical, he pulled something in his shoulder and had to call it a day.
So much for our sparring session. Although, the technical drills were very helpful.

He will be coming back another day next week, so we will try again.

NEW VLOG

For those not yet familiar with it, I have started publishing a vlog of my training. Right now it will be available every Wednesday, but may become more frequent depending on popularity.

It will be on 'The Brick's' Facebook page, along with a link to YouTube.

Here is last week's for those who have not yet seen it:
ROAD TO HAMILTON, WEEK 5

That is all for this entry.
With me beginning to crack down on training and not revealing too much of my training methods, I do not have much to post here at this time.

There will also be no vlog entry on my final week of training (December 7).
It will be posted the week after my bout.
This is so to not reveal my final level of training to my opponent or his coach. It will be used for my personal use until after December 10 when it will be published to the public.

Cheers,
